What is Rapina ry?
Keski-Suomen sanataideyhdistys Rapina ry is a Finnish nonprofit organisation whose aim is to spread and increase the accessibility of literary art and cultural experiences in Central Finland. Rapina was founded in 2005 and is based in Jyväskylä.
We offer professional literary instruction and education for children, youth, and adults of all ages. Our activities consist, among others, of monthly open meetings for creative writing, workshops and courses of art and literature, and various events where participants can engage in literary arts and culture. Our activity is mostly in Finnish language, but in the future we may offer events or courses targeted for non-native speakers as well. We also offer workshops in English.
What is ‘sanataide’?
The Finnish word sanataide (literally ‘word art’) is perhaps best translated as ‘literary art’ or ‘creative writing’. Broadly speaking sanataide is everything you do with words, language and stories. Sanataide is all about expressing yourself creatively through writing, reading, poetry, or even other art forms such as painting, performance or singing. One could say that as long as you are using your imagination, you are doing sanataide in one way or another.
